130 teams applied, 28 took part in the series, but only two made it to the grand final of the University Challenge student quiz. When we found out one of the participants was our very own Public Health PHD student Justin Yang we were delighted.
Justin Yang is currently studying for his PHD at the Cambridge Institute of Public Health, under the supervision of Prof Carol Brayne and Dr Andres Roman-Urrestarazu, where he is researching comparative health policy among OECD countries with a focus on health care financing, coverage, and payment. He says “After completing my master’s degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, I applied to Cambridge because of its status as a world leader in public health research, the opportunity to conduct research in a European setting, and its close ties with the NHS.”
Though there weren’t any questions on his topic area during the quiz, he had the opportunity to showcase his impressive general knowledge. The Director of Cambridge Institute of Public Health, Professor Carol Brayne, was certainly impressed, saying “I’m delighted that Justin’s extra-curricular activities are so erudite.”
